"Aspens in Winter"
Aspens exhibit a stark beauty in winter when all of their imperfections are revealed. Scars, knots and dead branches are the result of age and resilience and add to the tree's essence. This image was captured on a peaceful December day, enhanced with fresh snow and subdued even light.
"Trees are the earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven."
- Rabindranath Tagore, Fireflies, 1928
"Bob's Truck"
Not sure if this really was Bob's truck, but
a guy named Bob lived there and it was in his
yard. If you love old Fords, then you gotta love
this one. Built in the mid forties, it's been
parked for some time along the old homestead
hedgerow…along with every other vehicle
that wore out on that farm over the last 80
years. The original color was typical Ford green
but it has been oxidized to a time-inspired
patina of perfection.
"War Paint"
The Native American war horse was highly regarded
by its owner, who often honored and protected him
by painting tribal symbols upon the animal's
body. These symbols would indicate enemies
killed, ponies stolen or perhaps the nature of
the dangerous work which the horse would be asked
to do. The symbols often told of the courageous
heart of the horse and even of the horse's
affection for the warrior who rode him into
battle. This palomino paint horse was given a
circle around his eye for alert vision, while
feathers counted coup.
