"The Turquoise Horse"
I began this piece with a reference photograph of our quarter horse "Roper". The turquoise color
just kept begging to be on the horse. I would paint it out and then paint it in again and again...
wondering why.
Finally, I just left it in and followed my heart. A circle for his eye and a feather bundle of beads,
for his mane.
Soon after I came upon these words from the origin myths of the Navajo: "I am the Sun's son,
I sat on the turquoise horse, He went to the opening in
the sky, He went with me to the opening, The turquoise horse Prances With Me." ...And so he does.

"A Tribe of Horses"
It is interesting to note that shields became smaller for use in mounted warfare upon the arrival of the horse.
Influenced by a shield made by Bull Lodge, a Gros Ventre warrior, spiritual leader and healer,
this piece features nails, feathers, ermine skin, trade beads, leather, vintage fabric and wax thread.
Acrylic mixed media 12 x 36 gallery wrap $850.
"First Horse"
For many years we had a big, beautiful Norwegian Fjord named "George".
Sometimes his voluptuous body type shows up in my work.
He always reminded me of the primitive "first" horses sketched upon cave walls.
Acrylic 30 x 24 set within a floater frame $1400.
